Communications Assistant

Layssa Pena serves as a Communications Assistant at Global Situation Room, where she leverages her strong policy background and extensive experience at the intersection of government, communications, and public affairs. Prior to joining GSR, Layssa held roles with the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, Senator Amy Klobuchar in Minneapolis, Representative Yassamin Ansari on Capitol Hill, and as a Communications Intern at the White House for Vice President Kamala Harris. These experiences equipped her with a deep understanding of policy development, stakeholder engagement, and strategic messaging.

At GSR, Layssa applies this expertise to craft impactful communications and support global client outreach, leveraging her policy insight and strategic communications skill set to advance the firm’s strategic objectives.

Layssa Pena is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where she graduated summa cum laude and earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Psychology, with minors in Global Studies and Social Justice. In addition, she studied international relations abroad at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
