Chief executives have got their work cut out for them. When I asked the head of a multibillion-dollar company last week whether it was stressful navigating President Trump’s trade policies, he replied: “That would be an understatement.”
Business leaders have been forced to rip up their strategies for 2025 and shift their focus towards limiting their companies’ exposure to any fallout from higher tariffs. Other plans, such as working out how to attract top talent or how best to invest in artificial intelligence technology, have been deprioritised.
Brett Bruen, president of the Global Situation Room, a Washington-based firm that advises on corporate crises, said this month that the timeline for executives to make decisions was “condensing and condensing, it seems by the day, if not by the hour”.
